General Introduction
The Victims' Rights Working Group (VRWG) was established in 1997 by organisations that have promoted the interests and needs of victims in criminal justice and human rights bodies. Its main objective is to raise the awareness of governments and others (e.g. the press, other NGOs and the public), in all relevant fora, about victims' issues, to ensure that victims' rights be protected and respected, and that their needs and concerns are met throughout the judicial process of the ICC.
The VRWG raises awareness of victims’ rights for crimes that fall within the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court. It contributes to the development of the Court's policies and procedures relating to victims’ access to, and participation in, Court proceedings while also monitoring developments at the Court impacting upon victims' rights.
With its central office located in The Hague, the VRWG continues to actively follow the progressive development of the Court's policies and procedures to ensure that the rights, needs and interests of victims are met.
