Presentation of the case

Abduladhim Maktouf was a member of the Army of BiH. On 19 October 1993, he intentionally helped members of the Al Mujahid Unit abduct two civililans in order to exchange them for members of the Al Mujahid Unit who had been captured by the HVO. He drove his own van to the property of the civilians in Travnik, where he waited until the others returned with their hostages. They were put in the boot of the van. Maktouf then drove the van to the camp of the Al Mujahid Unit in the village of Orašac.

On 4 April 2006, the Appelate Panel of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) found Abduladhim Maktouf guilty of war crimes against civilians and sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment.
