The Hague Academic Coalition (HAC) is a consortium of academic institutions in the fields of international relations, international law and international development.

About the Hague Academic Coalition (HAC)

The Coalition was established in 2004 to promote collaborative efforts between these six institutions. Specifically, the HAC intends to promote research, education and public debate in support of the enhancement of international law, governance and international policies and negotiations towards justice, peace and sustainable development.

As part of this broad objective, the HAC particularly seeks to support the work of the various international courts, tribunals and national and international organisations based in The Hague, including the ICC, ICJ, ICTY and the OPCW. In addition the HAC cooperates closely with the Municipality of The Hague, the Province of South Holland, the Dutch Raad voor de Rechtspraak, and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

Current Programs and Activities

•   Hague Forum for Judicial Expertise, providing high level training to judges,magistrates and prosecutors

•   Hague Justice Portal, providing up to date information about the activities of international courts, tribunals and other international organisations based in The Hague

•    Hague Justice Journal (HJJ-JJH), a bilingual English/French academic journal focusing on international peace, justice and security related to The Hague

•    PCA Digitalisation Project a programme aimed at the digitalisation of the historic jurisprudence of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA)

•    From Peace to Justice The HAC's annual conference, focusing on specific subjects related to international law, peace and justice

•    Regular HAC lectures: public lectures aimed at enhancing the discussion in The Hague on topics related to peace and justice.

Furthermore, the HAC actively promotes:

•    cooperation with other academic, policy and judicial agencies in The Hague and the
     Netherlands;
•    international co-operation with similar organisations elsewhere in the world;
•    the provision of postgraduate and post-academic courses relevant to students and
     practitioners in the fields indicated above;
•    scholarly and policy-orientated research as well as consultancy activities;
•    publications of its conference proceedings and lectures;
•    public events targeted at the international community in The Hague, aiming at
     practitioners and students of international law, diplomacy and development.
