You are cordially invited to the next lecture in the Supranational Criminal Law Lecture Series on Wednesday 14 May 2008 to be given by Judge Doherty of the Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL).
Judge Teresa Doherty - currently the Presiding Judge in the trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor - will give a lecture on the developments of ad hoc tribunals and the innovations of the SCSL as part of the weekly Supranational Criminal Law lecture series.

Brief biography of Judge Doherty
Justice Teresa Doherty was called to the bar 1978. From 1976-1987 she practiced law in Northern Ireland and Papua New Guinea. In 1987 she was appointed a Principal Magistrate in Papua New Guinea and from 1988-1997 she served as a Judge of the Supreme and National Courts.
In 1998 she returned to private law practice in Northern Ireland, where she worked until 2003. Most recently, from 2003-2005, Judge Doherty has served as a Judge of the High Court and the Court of Appeal of Sierra Leone. Since 2002 she has served as Life Sentence Review Commissioner for Northern Ireland.
The evening lecture will begin at 19.00 at the T.M.C. Asser Instituut. Attendance is free of charge and coffee and tea will be provided.
