Day of Peace logoOn 21 September 2008, The Hague will mark the United Nations International Day of Peace. The day calls for a worldwide ceasefire and intends to raise awareness of peace and conflict prevention.

Numerous events have been organised in the Hague to celebrate the Day of Peace. A number of international organisations, including the ICJ, OPCW and ICTY, will open their doors to the public on this day.

A glimpse behind the scenes

One of the many events taking place on the 21 September is the Open Day at the International Organisations, an introduction to some of the most important international organisations based in The Hague. They will be opening their doors to the general public for the day, allowing people to take a glimpse behind the scenes at the International Court of Justice in the Peace Palace, the Yugoslavia Tribunal, and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
