The Institute of Social Studies (ISS) is hosting an International Seminar entitled "The Civic Driven Change Initiative" on Wednesday 15 October 2008. You are warmly invited to attend the day-long seminar.
Introduction
If states, markets and NGOs fail to bring about change and social justice, then who will?
Can citizens come up with new perspectives on social change? Are civic driven changes a potential solution to global political problems? They might. In fact they are... The Civic Driven Change Initiative is a year-long process of thinking, writing and debating to arrive at and communicate a perspective of change in societies that stems from citizens rather than states or markets. It is supported by a number of Dutch non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that value the potential of creating a strong civic narrative which extends beyond local conditions and circumstances.
The initiative is hosted by the Institute of Social Studies, represented by Dr. Kees Biekart and Dr. Alan Fowler, and the process is facilitated by Fons van der Velden (Context, international cooperation).
The product of the initiative is a collection of essays and policy briefs that will be presented and discussed at an International Seminar on The Civic Driven Change Initiative on 15 October 2008 at the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague.
If you are interested in attending this International Seminar, the organisers kindly ask that you please register before 4 October 2008.
